Problem

In 2011, SynchroCyber devised a secure method of mapping one PIV card to multiple accounts for federal agencies. Since that time, policy changes regarding digital signing certificates created the need to update this process.

In 2021, SynchroCyber released a new document that provides guidance on how to migrate from the current solution to the updated solution that is compatible with the changes in digital signing certificates.

Solution

This 2021 document provides configuration guidance to federal government agencies and commercial companies on how link network authentication to a PIV Auth certificate and associated key pair.  This involves using Microsoft Alternate Security Identities and Microsoft Group Policies to verify users’ network authentication Is based on a smart card (PIV) authentication.
